Shortly after Joanne Cook gave birth to a baby boy they called Jason John Cook on September 13, 1980, their family moved from Somerdale New Jersey, USA, to Los Angeles, California. His father, Bill Cook, is an engineer for amusement parks and his mother, Joanne is a pre-school teacher. He has three siblings, his brother Michael and his two sisters, Michelle and Jenean.
The Italian-descent actor used to think that he wanted to be a professional soccer player when his parents gave him a soccer ball, which he still keeps as of this moment. However, he knew, even at a young age, that he wanted to sing. As a matter of fact, he was performing for his family at age two. Knowing what he wanted by heart, he started studying piano. At the age of twelve, he began earning through playing piano at weddings and through winning piano competitions.
Cookie took no notice on his acting skills and just focused his attention on music, until he performed in a high school play, "Whodunnit?", as a replacement for the lead actor who dropped out at the last minute. With only a week's time of preparation, Jason realized that acting is really what he wanted to do. During the play, he was fortunate to have his best friend's dad, Bill Civitella, on the audience. Bill is a theatrical manager and offered Jason assistance if he wants to pursue acting. Afterwards, he got his first television appearance as a host of Disney Channel's Project Time.
