Who would have thought that a Business Administration graduate of University of Vermont would land a career on television? Kerr Van Cleve Smith, although acting is his first love, followed his father's advice to take up a sensible course. Upon graduation, he immediately started a business with his father. However, he realized that this wasn't where his heart really was. He enjoyed making presentations but he loathed selling. Hence, he decided to seek his luck in the acting industry.
Way back in high school, apart from excelling in both sports and politics, he also took part on playing the role of Sir Edward Ramsey in one of the school's theatrical production, entitled "The King and I."
Indeed, beginnings are never really easy - true for actor Kerr Smith. His first acting experience was with his mother. They appeared in Twelve Monkeys in 1995 as uncredited extras. Unfortunately, it was only his mother who appeared on the screen because Kerr's scene was cut out. This experience motivated him more to pursue acting seriously. His first big acting break is as Ryder Hughes on a CBS daytime drama "As the World Turns". He then got recognized and at the same time, he bagged his first award, the Best New Actor award from Soap Opera Magazine.
Teen idol and gay icon Kerr Smith was born on March 9, 1972 in Exton Pennsylvania, USA, to Barbara and Rick Smith. He grew up with a younger sister named Allison Smith in the Philadelphia suburb of Exton, Pennsylvania. He married fellow actress Harmoni Everett on June 7, 2003.
