Thomas John Patrick Welling was born on 26 April 1977 in Putnam Valley, New York, USA and moved to Delaware in third grade, before that he lived in Wisconsin. His family moved yet again while he was in high school to Okemos, Michigan. He played a lot of sport while there and graduated with OK marks. His siblings include two older sisters and a younger brother. Before acting Tom was a model but resigned to pursue an acting career. He currently lives with his wife Jamie White and their dogs in Los Angeles.
